Ashlyn is a Mont Belvieu native and played for Barbers Hill High School as a three-year letterman. A well-rounded player, Ashlyn was multi skilled as a setter and libero/DS. This earned her Academic All-District, 2nd Team All-District, and an opportunity to play in the All-Star game her senior season. Prior to coaching, she played for Xcel Mont Belvieu's first 18U team and was an integral part of the season under Denise Johnson. Ashlyn returns for a second season as a developmental coach and enjoys working with Xcel's youngest players. She currently studies at Lee College and plans to transfer to UHCL to study business.
Krystal is from Portland, Oregon but was raised in Texas. She was a three-year letterman for Dayton High School where she earned Defensive Player of the Year and 1st Team All-District each season. She was voted Most Valuable Player her senior season before being recruited to play division I volleyball at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX. Krystal returned to Dayton as an assistant coach and began playing sand volleyball twice a week, which she still does regularly.
Coach George brings a wealth of experience to Xcel Volleyball. Originally from Hamshire-Fannett, George played at Lee College in 1997 as a middle blocker. She then transferred to Henderson State University to finish her collegiate career. She stayed an extra season to become the HSU graduate assistant for the volleyball program and then took on the role as the assistant coach at Lee College in 2001 when the Lady Rebels finished 2nd at the national tournament.
George has been active in club volleyball since 2002 as a coach and board member. She has been a teacher at Barbers Hill for 18 years and coaches volleyball for JV and Varsity.
Ashley Dempsay joins Xcel for her first season and brings a wealth of experience. She was a three-year letterman at Sterling High School and received 2nd Team All-District her junior year as a 6-rotation outside hitter. As a senior, Ashley earned Greater Houston Player of the Week, 1st Team All-District, All-Academic Team, and was team captain.
This will be her 7th year coaching club volleyball and has experience in every age including developmental. Usually coaching two teams a season, Ashley has won many tournaments in the Houston area. When she's not on the court, she's chasing around her three kids in the country life!
Kylee Kejonen returns to the Xcel staff for her second season. She is a local for the Mont Belvieu location and has played for Barbers Hill and Stellar the last 6 seasons. She has experience in all three front row positions and has earned the following accolades: First Team All-District 21-5A, Academic All District, TAVC 5A All State Academic Team, GHVCA All Academic Team, GHVCA Watch List, Vype Middles Watch List, Vype Middle Preseason Pole, and Under Armor All-American Watch List. Coach Kejonen plays at Lee college and studies business management.
Coach Rodriguez is from Baytown, TX and was an active athlete for Barbers Hill High School. She was a letter winner for cross country, track, volleyball, and soccer. Rodriguez then continued her volleyball career at Lee College where she was a recipient of several awards including Presidential Honor's Day Volleyball Award, Lee College Volleyball Legacy Award, Class Act Award, The Elvin Bethea Hall of Fame Sportsmanship Award, and she was honored for outstanding community service hours.
Celeste has playing experience with all positions on the court. Her favorite volleyball memory is going to Salt Lake City, Utah for a tournament!
Coach Monk is a Mont Belvieu native that is excited for her second season at Xcel in her hometown! Beginning her career in 7th grade, Monk played for BHISD and was a starting varsity middle blocker her junior and senior season. She finished her high school campaign strong with two consecutive district championships. Monk helped build the program to an impressive #6 rank in Texas, and she was awarded the Dare to Soar Award for outstanding leadership . Monk was quickly recruited to play for San Jacinto College, a highly regarded DI NJCAA program.
This will be Monk's 6th year of coaching club. When she's not in the gym, she balances being a LifeSkills paraprofessional at BHHS and chasing around her adorable 4-year-old son!
Becca Estrada is from Richmond, TX and played for Travis High School as a two-year letterman. Both seasons she led the program to two 6A playoffs and earned All-District 20-6A Honorable Mention, Second Team All-Area, and All-District 20-6A Academic Team following her junior and senior seasons. She continued to play at Vernon College and appeared in all 32 matched as a freshmen leading in assists and hitting percentage. Becca completed her degree from Wharton County Junior College and then transferred to University of St. Thomas as a setter/DS. Becca is coaching her 2nd year at Xcel, working towards a BBA/MBA in marketing, and competing in her final season at UST as a senior.
Samantha West is a Southeast, TX native and played for Bridge City High School as a three-year varsity middle blocker. She received All-Orange County honors and Academic All-State honors while playing club volleyball for Christian Community Club and Tri-City Juniors Volleyball Club. She continued her athletic career at Navarro Junior College and transferred to play division I volleyball at Sam Houston State University as a middle blocker. Coach West graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management in 2014. She stayed active in the sport coaching at Hardin County Juniors and summer leagues. She's currently a Pharmaceutical Sales Specialist and enjoys traveling, hunting, going to the gym and spending time with her dog, Sadie.
Coach Moffitt enters her 7th season as a head coach with Xcel. She has experience with 13's, 14's, and 15's in several Xcel locations, and is currently the Director of Marketing of Xcel Volleyball and manages the Mont Belvieu location. She graduated with a master's degree in hospitality management with an emphasis in sports events from University of Houston. During this time, Moffitt was the assistant coach for Lee College. She has event production experience for NJCAA, NAIA, and NFL. Moffitt is currently the head coach for Incarnate Word Academy in Houston.
As a college student-athlete, she played four years as a middle blocker at UST and Lee College. She recieved several athletic accolades such as Most Valuable Player at Lee and UST, NJCAA Region XIV First Team All-Region and All-Conference selections, and Lee College Presidential Volleyball Award. Moffitt finished second in the nation in NAIA for blocks per set her senior season. She currently holds the UST record for blocks per set and total blocks in a season.
Evon Welch joins Xcel Volleyball for her third season! Prior to Xcel, Welch has experience with other clubs and college volleyball. She is from Spring, TX and played for Westfield High School. Welch received several district honors and continued her career to play for University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX as a powerhouse middle blocker and right side. She helped lead her team to a 2010 Red River Athletic Conference Championship, earning a bid to the opening round of NAIA Nationals. Welch finished her career with All-Conference Honors. In 2018, she returned to UST as an assistant coach, being instrumental in front row development.
Coach Evon is currently the JV coach for Incarnate Word Academy in Houston, Texas. Off the court, she balances being a mother and a entrepreneur.
Michael Williams is from Dayton, Texas where he played basketball for Dayton High School and later began playing volleyball competitively in college. He was an integral part of establishing the volleyball program at East Texas Baptist University and was its first assistant coach. Michael was later named the head coach for Panola College in Carthage, TX. He began his high school coaching career 21 years ago and was named 7x District Coach of the Year and Longview News Journal Coach of the Year for the East Texas area. Michael has many years of experience in USA volleyball under East Texas Juniors where he served as a board member and assistant director. He is currently the head coach at Goose Creek Memorial High School.
Nakia Taylor returns to Xcel for a third season. She attended Atascocita High School and played all front row positions, earning her 1st and 2nd Team All-District and MVP her senior season. She played for the powerhouse program San Jacinto that competed in the most competitive NJCAA region. Taylor transitioned primarily as a pin hitter and was voted 2nd Team All-Conference and Honorable Mention. Her favorite volleyball memory was playing 10 full hours as a freshman at the Region XIV Volleyball Tournament and winning 2nd place to advance to the NJCAA Division I Volleyball Nationals in Casper, Wyoming.
Coach Walker is a Baytown native that returns for her third year at the Mont Belvieu location. She is a graduate from Goose Creek Memorial High School and was an integral part of the volleyball program as a setter. Walker earned Volleyball Scholar Athlete of the Year three consecutive years, 2016 Dickinson Tournament Champion and All-Tournament Team, and the position as varsity team captain. Walker broke two records during her high school career: total assists in one season and total career assists.
Walker will be a senior at the University of St. Thomas for the women's volleyball program as a setter. She led the Celts to a 25-7 overall record and Red River Athletic Conference Championship her sophomore year. She is studying business administration and holds a 4.0.
Coach Johnson joins the coaching staff for Xcel with an impressive background in volleyball. She began coaching for Tarkington ISD in 1981 and started the volleyball program 5 years later in 1986. Building a legacy, Johnson led the Longhorns to 3 state appearances in 2001, 2011, and 2012. She was named TGCA 1A-4A Coach of the Year and SETX Coach of the Year in 2012. Johnson was voted District Coach of the Year 17 times. In addition to coaching, Johnson also served as the TGCA Volleyball Chair and a TGCA Board of Director.
Johnson has 3 children (Chelsea, Kendall, and Tristan) and 4 grandchildren (Jackson, Brux, Elijah, and Landree)!
