2019 Cypress Coaches

DANI REYNOLDS - DEVELOPMENTAL


Bob Pazitney - 12 LOCAL

Bob Pazitney begins his first season at Xcel, but is no stranger to the game. After meeting his wife some 35 years ago, she showed him the game of volleyball and he has been an avid enthusiast of the sport ever since. Bob and Michelle have 2 grown children, both graduating from Cy Falls and are first time grandparents. He has played in all levels of men’s and co-ed, both indoor and outdoor throughout Texas. He now has turned his efforts into giving back to the community he truly loves. For the past 12 years he has given his time to coach in the Houston YMCA volleyball program. He also continues to run clinics at VillaSport Cypress. He is the head coach of The Connection School of Cypress, where in his first year is helping to build a volleyball culture that continues to flourish.


JD Doty - 12 LOCAL

JD Doty returns to Xcel for her second season! She has primary experience with 12U in the Cypress location. In addition to volleyball, Coach Doty has extensive experience coaching softball on the club and collegiate level. She was a former assistant coach for Abilene Christian University, where she also played as a third basemen. As a college athlete, Coach Doty received All-Conference and MVP honors.

Coach Doty is from Abilene, Texas and was a setter/DS for her high school. She has been heavily involved in coaching kids of all ages and loves building self-esteem! Her favorite volleyball memory is when her oldest daughter learned how to serve over the net and how elated she was! 


Courtney Smith - 12 SEMI TRAVEL

Courtney Smith returns to Xcel for a 4th season! She is originally from Cypress, Texas and was a standout athlete for Cypress Falls High School. After graduation, Smith accepted a full ride athletic scholarship to play for University of Houston to compete at the NCAA DI level. She then returned to her hometown and now teaches special education math at Cypress Falls. She is also the junior varsity volleyball coach. 


Erin Spivey - 13 LOCAL

Erin Spivey is from Cypress where she played as a libero and defense specialist. In 2010, she was awarded MVP Defensive Player 5A School District for Eisenhower High School. The next two season she was libero for Cyfalls High School and was awarded 2012 Honorable Mention State Team. Spivey accepted a full ride athletic scholarship to play for Texas Southern University in Houston, TX. During her collegiate career, she was MVP SWAC Defensive Player and TSU Player of the Week for three consecutive weeks. Spivey studied biology, chemistry and education. 


MARLON ARIAS - 14 LOCAL

Coach Arias is from Houston, TX and is a former US Army veteran. During his time serving our country, he joined the indoor and outdoor volleyball leagues, developing a love for the sport. He attended Cal Polytechnical University- Pomona and graduated with a degree in accounting. Passionate about fitness, Arias boxes and plays soccer and volleyball. On his down time, he enjoys playing poker and working out! His favorite volleyball memory includes watching his daughter play for Xcel last year and win her first tournament!


Tommy Ortiz - 14 SEMI TRAVEL

Tommy Ortiz is from Puerto Rico where he played volleyball year round. He has been competitively playing the last 35 years. Ortiz plays weekly and competes in adult tournaments several times a year. He has 16-year-old twins that have been playing for Xcel Cypress since the location was founded.  

Ortiz loves the sport that has been a huge part of his life, and he hopes to always transfer that to his players.  


Sydni Oliver - 14 TRAVEL

Sydni Oliver returns for a third season to Xcel! The Houston native has experience with 14U, and her favorite volleyball memory was a couple years ago as a first-year club coach. Her team’s first tournament was the Aggieland Classic Tournament, and Oliver remembers it being a long, FUN day that kicked off her club career. Oliver played for Cy-Lakes High School and was a dominate middle blocker. 

Off the court, Oliver loves to travel! 


HUNTER SCHRAMME - 15 LOCAL

Hunter Schramme is originally from Richmond, TX and graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in sport management. During his undergrad, he was a left handed setter for men's volleyball, intramurals, and sand. Schramme then graduated with a Master of Science in Sport Business with a concentration in professional and collegiate sport operations from New York University. 

Growing up with an older sister that played collegiately, Schramme has always had a passion for volleyball. He is currently the superintendent for his family construction company, Schramme Construction.


Shelby Hughes - 15 TRAVEL

Shelby Hughes starts her third season with Xcel! She brings experience in coaching 14 travel and local teams. A native from Cypress, Shelby played different positions during her youth, making her a multi-dimensional player. She was a libero for high school and setter for club, making her court knowledge and strategy  well-rounded.

Hughes enjoys traveling with teams and making memories with her players and their families. She loves quality time with her kids and building relationships!


Lauren Thompson - 16 TRAVEL

Lauren Thompson returns to Xcel for a 3rd season! She is from Spring, Texas and began playing volleyball at a very early age. Playing right side and setter for Spring High School, Thompson earned First Team All-District and Offensive Player of the Year her senior season. After graduation, she played four years at Oklahoma Wesleyan University and led her team to a NCCAA Championship Tournament in Florida. Thompson moved back to Spring after college and has coached 11s through 15s for Xcel!


Chaz Smith - 13 TRAVEL & 18 TRAVEL

Chaz Smith will be starting his 5th season with Xcel in 2019! A Cypress native, Smith played football for Cypress Falls High School. He then continued his athletic career at Lamar University playing football and club volleyball. An all around player, Smith was a setter and outside hitter. 

Smith coached the first 18s team for Xcel's Cypress location and was an integral part in his players' college recruiting process. One of his favorite memories is winning the 17U Lone Star Regionals championship match at George R. Brown Convention Center.
